Is This Wisdom, Or Just Thick Skin?
It appears that aging leads to very different cognition around negative images. A report in the December issue of Psychological Science (which I do not have access to — subscription only (Grrr)) suggests that with age, we tend to incorporate rational thought into our processing of highly charged negative images:
